A Family Tradition

A Family Tradition

For more than 45 years, the Wehr family has been accommodating guests that come to enjoy the bountiful offering of family recreation and leisure attractions offered at the jewel of Western Pennsylvania, Moraine State Park. The campground was originated by Robert Wehr a career engineer born in 1929, who developed a passion for families and the outdoor lifestyle. In 1975, he and his wife June purchased a nearly 60-acre rolling agricultural land tract along Moraine State Park's southwestern border that featured immediate access to Lake Arthur. Considering the strategic location and its rolling beauty and topographical challenges, Robert designed the park with a variety of camp areas and greenways . That summer, the park was created utilizing volunteers and recruits from his family including his parents, his wife June and sons, Keith, Todd and Craig. By Labor Day weekend the transformation of his design blueprints to a 100-site full-service camping park was realized and opened for Campers to enjoy for the colorful fall season.

And the Tradition Continues...

During the early years, several varieties of trees were hand planted for what is now mature shade. Many thousands of families have become loyal camping patrons over the past few decades. Today, a new generation of Wehr's join the staff for the joy of serving our guests and offering the ultimate family camping experience in Butler County for years to come!
